CAKE's back, baby! Back on message promoting über Weddings in the Temecula Valley wine country and the Fallbrook area. We got Pluto-ed during the height of the Wedding season, but our therapist is helping us work through the separation anxiety we suffered while away from you guys.

Many thanks for the correspondence sent while we were on hiatus. We were most pumped when messaged: "CAKE? Cut me a slice of that!" Very cool.

This sort of response repays us with interest. Thanks for reading, thanks for writing, thanks for the support. So - getting back to the groove - let's CAKE!! [kāk. verb. to drill down].

The original plan for this issue was to highlight 2007's 5th annual Fallbrook Fantasy Wedding and the generous venues (Grand Tradition & Pala Mesa Resort) and vendors who donated $25,000 worth of their time, services & facilities to this worthwhile event. But there have been so many changes throughout the wine country & Fallbrook wedding worlds, that, as we transition between the 2007-2008 Wedding seasons, CAKE thought to begin the New Year by featuring transitions.

Transitions

And so, taking a deep breath and trying to keep track of our industry's musical chairs - without a program - CAKE begins with the winds of change at Claudio Ponte's venture, Ponte Winery

Karon Cartwright has joined Ponte as the winery's Director of Food & Beverage. (Which includes overseeing the Wedding department). Previously, Karon created Pala Mesa Resort's wedding department and oversaw it for 6 years.

Joining Karon at Ponte are Suzanne Tyler (Weddings), Caren Perez (Weddings), Kristen De Wynn (Banquet Manager. Think: Wedding receptions), Liz Tyler (Special Events. Not to mention, Suzanne's twin sister) & Donald "Ty" Tyler (Tasting Room. And, yes, yet another Tyler, brother of Suzanne & Liz). All the above were previously associated with Pala Mesa Resort. And since that covers the entire Ponte Special Events Department - save one - we're going to take a brief non-Wedding detour to congratulate Karla Cleary on the imminent arrival of her 1st baby!

[Excuse us while we catch our breath!!].

In other Wedding-related news, wine country veteran, Mindy Smith, has joined Wilson Creek Winery as their Director of Food & Beverage.

Long-time CAKE pal, Cindy Bailey, is the new Special Events Manager at Inn At Churon Winery.

Annette Nielsen has sunset-ed her coordinating business - Events By Annette - and is now serving as Wedding Coordinator at Menifee Lakes Country Club.

Sadhana Fuller has joined the Grand Tradition as another of their superb Wedding Coordinators.

Kat Jackson has taken the reins as Wedding Coordinator at Pala Mesa Resort.

Sheri Mahr, chief petal-pusher at Sheri's Flower's, has opened a darling floral shop on Main Street in Fallbrook.

Leah Bennett has joined South Coast Winery as their Catering Coordinator. (CAKE-speak: Wedding Coordinator).

Krista Chaich is now with Callaway Winery as their Event Manager (Weddings!).

Amends & Amplifications

In a previous issue, we were remiss in "misplacing" names of the stable of shooters at RK Green Studios. Yeah, we lost 'em. (Put down the pitchforks! We're all friends here!!). As readers have let us know, RKG has been way-instrumental in the visuals making CAKE the hot fuss. So we humbly re-introduce the photographers of RK Green Studios: Randy Green, (father of Taryn), Taryn Green (daughter of Randy), Shannon Hawkins (mother of Haylee), Haylee Hawkins (daughter of Shannon), Heather Nicklas (concurrently studying at Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara), Megan Gorcey (concurrently newlywed-ing. wedding shot by RKG in Ventura) & Cheryl Tukua (concurrently newlywed-ing. wedding shot by RKG in Fallbrook. RKG Studios PR & finances).

Entertainment

Two Wedding professionals in our midst are living it lively on the Web sharing the "saving grace of humor." CAKE finds seriousness so overrated, ergo tune-in to their extracurricular activities. Giggles guaranteed!

Reverend Judi DeMarco takes her star turn in a recent episode of USA Network's, "Character Road Trip."

Jimbo Marshall - video virtuoso at Premiere Productions - films, writes and co-stars in "Mr. Deity."

Further Transitions

On a sad note, it is with regrets we report the passing of Donna Humphreys. Donna presided over one of the area's storied Wedding venues - Humphreys Estate. Humphreys is an English estate, replete with peacocks wandering the grounds, that one would never imagine in the wine country. Bob & Holly Humphreys (Donna's husband & daughter) continue to conduct Weddings at the estate. It should be a life-quest of every Wedding professional in the region to take a tour of Humphreys Estate. It has to be seen to be believed. Donna, you will be sorely missed.

Finally, on a romantic Wedding-y note (of course!), CAKE was thrilled to attend the Holiday season nuptials of Lisa Green & Frank Aglio. There's probably not a one of us who hasn't worked with photographer Lisa over the years. Lisa is currently shooting out of her shop - C3 Photography. As for Frank, he wowed the wine country (not an easy task) by creating the Oak Meadows venue, another must-see for any of you who haven't yet been there. Gee, we wonder where Mr. & Mrs. A. were married?!

Venues & Vendors: if you have Wedding-related news updates you would
like to share with your fellow Wedding professionals, please forward them to CAKE

OAK MEADOWS

Due in large part to its nonpareil design, newly-opened Oak Meadows has quickly emerged as a first-among-equals Wedding venue in the Temecula Valley wine country. When CAKE was first invited for an evening tour of the facility, we were told we would be witnessing "fountains of fire" on the Oak Meadows lake. [ Say what?!]. Until you've been there, all we can say is its a see-it-to-believe-it experience.

The Ceremony site, bordered on one side by a lush lawn and rose gardens, is framed on the other by the lake and the celebrated fountains of fire.

The festivities begin with the Bride arriving for her Ceremony by way of a horse-drawn carriage, and then - following the couple's nuptials - their guests are invited to party the night away in the spectacularly lighted reception tent. (When no one's looking, we've noted guests stealing away to the romantic lounge area to sit at tables overlooking the lake. CAKE foresees there soon being as many proposals at Oak Meadows as Weddings!).

The theatrical setting of Oak Meadows is owned and managed by the Aglio family - Frank, and sons, Frankie, Jr. & Anthony. Arrange an evening tour to see the flaming fountains. Eye candy guaranteed!

TEMECULA CREEK INN

We've all attended indoor Weddings. Been there. Been blasé there!

So, the good news about the wine country &  Fallbrook's many unique outdoor Wedding destinations? That there are so many of them. The flipside? (For those of us trying to describe them to Brides). That the wine country & Fallbrook have so many unique Wedding sites defying description.

The historic Stone House at Temecula Creek Inn is one such location. As you drive north on I-15, from Fallbrook toward the wine country, you would never guess in a million years such a romantic, fairy tale setting is but a stone's-throw away.

Weddings take place on the grounds of the historic 180-year-old Stone House, located under centuries-old heritage oaks, gracing guests with shade from the summer sun. The reception tables and dance floor are also set under the shadow of the oaks, with a nearby fire ring beckoning guests to while away the evening in its warm glow.

Your Special Day will flow from start to finish guided by the professionalism and friendliness of Anndrea Boren & Crystal Marshall. You couldn't be in better hands! Their winsome demeanor will keep your Special Day festive and light-hearted.

Call Anndrea & Crystal for a tour through history and take a step back in time toward your future!

Lisa Green

The vast majority of Wedding vendors in the wine country and Fallbrook area can be counted on to be at the top of their game. So when looking for the singular photographer to record your Special Day in a way guaranteed to bring tears to the eyes, how's a girl to decide?

Trust your Inner Bride! If you're feeling the love, there's only one conclusion to be drawn . . . you've found your photographer!

Lisa Green - and her boutique firm, C3 Photography - is a case in point. That you'll look at her albums and admire her skills is nearly beside the point. More telling is that upon meeting Lisa and witnessing her never-met-a-stranger interest in you & your Wedding, you can rest assured the album showcasing your nuptials will prove to be the one that's haunted your dreams for years.

Shooting with daughter, Colby, and staff photographers

"M & M" - Michelle DePeugh and Michelle Harvey, C3 not only captures the formal images that define your Wedding day, but those unique fleeting visuals only seen by the watchful cameraman. (camera-wo-man).

But beyond C3's professionalism - both onsite and on the pages of your album- by the time the final shutter has clicked, you will feel a friendship has developed along with your photographs.

Lisa and her staff are a delight to work with. Call C3 Photography and let her take you in hand while she makes the visual dreams of your Special Day come true!
